Morgan Sound was born out of Charlie Morgan’s musical background and insistence on the best possible sound quality for his own shows. A chance encounter affirmed that his early system designs had merit, and this career choice led him to form the modest beginnings in 1970 from which the company has constantly expanded. Operating in the Pacific Northwest, the demand for quality, purpose-designed systems continued to increase, allowing the company to grow at a steady, but modest pace.

Charlie’s reputation for persistent, consistent insistence on quality and attention to detail eventually led to him being contracted at the last minute for a Gordon Lightfoot performance; this led to a decade of working with Lightfoot all over North America. It was this springboard that allowed Morgan Sound to build the larger systems required to service the growing list of clients, events and venues.

At the very beginning of the concept of building a company, Charlie's wife, Susan Morgan was an enthusiastic supporter. Susan left her teaching position with the Seattle School District and became a full time partner in the operation and management of the business. Her presence gave the company direction and oversight while Charlie was away on the road tending to the touring clients. A retail store and service center were incorporated into the company's expanding palette of services. It would be from this hub that the company would begin to realize its true potential.

Ground stacked speaker systems were replaced by flown systems that opened up sight lines and improved the sound in all areas of the venues in which they were deployed. Many top tier sound companies had developed proprietary systems for this task which required a major investment of both time and money. After careful consideration Morgan became an early adopter of the JBL Concert Series speaker system (starting with serial # 0001 .. eventually using 72 of the mid-hi packages. A custom sized subwoofer made in-house rounded out the inventory. Now with a versatile and fly-able "rig" Morgan was suddenly able to properly service the larger venues in a tri-state area and the demand for their services grew.

The next steps in speaker system design brought us to the line array concept which caught on quickly. Over the span of some 20 years the company invested heavily, first in the JBL Vertec Model 4889, then VTX V-20 (a perfect size for many of the indoor venues being serviced). Coupled with the upgrades in electronics and amplifier systems the company's growth in the area of live sound continued to grow, and the decision was made to add yet another system to the inventory. The JBL VTX A-12 speaker module and even more subwoofers, amplifiers and support equipment are deployed in the summer of 2019. This addition will allow the company to use these flexible system packages to serve large indoor and outdoor venues while still being able to deploy 6 or more medium sized systems at the same time.

Around 1994 Charlie saw a new market developing. The company had used its retail headquarters up to this time to supply system components and system packages to customers of all types, but the trend for churches to install audio systems able to handle what was dubbed "contemporary" music was real and growing fast. A new Design and Installation division was created, headed up by Charlie.

And this division has grown beyond expectations. In the last 25 years hundreds of installations have been successfully completed, calling on JBL, Meyer Sound, EV and Nexo speaker systems to provide just the right complement of equipment for each unique venue. The scope of work expanded to include video, post production, lighting and system control.

Today this company is the quintessential One Stop Shop, combining the road show production savvy of our many talented engineers, the years of experience of our dedicated and certified installers, and our engineering staff in the office who document and outline all our work. We're using all these forces to provide the best possible experience for your event or venue.
